If you require an operation
If you require surgery, you will be given an admission form to your choice of hospital at the time of your consultation. You will be guided in the correct way to fill out the forms to be placed on the waiting list.
You will be provided with an Estimate of Surgeon’s Fees as well as information on how to contact the anaesthetist for pre-admission consultation and anaesthetist fee estimate.
Procedural fees will be according to the Australian Medical Association's List of Services and Fees. No Gap schemes are available to privately insured aged pensioners and other concessional patients as well as Gold Veteran (DVA) Card Holders.
The Admission
You will be contacted the day before admission.
Please follow the fasting instructions (please note that items such as milk, gum and sweets are considered food).
Please bring:
- All imaging studies
- Medicare card and other insurance information
- Change of clothes and toiletry depending on length of stay
Pre-surgical preparation and after the surgery, monitoring in the recovery room will occur. The total time in the operating theatre will be longer than the operation time due to time needed for your preparation for surgery, administration of anesthesia and monitoring as you recover from the anaesthetic.
After the Surgery
Trained staff will take care of your recovery by defining the most suitable rehabilitation program for you and accompanying you through the gradual recovery process.
Please ensure that you have arranged transport and a carer if applicable for the day of discharge.
Instructions for follow up will be provided before discharge. This is usually around 2 weeks after the date of operation.
